Quinoa

Every simple dish needs a great base. Quinoa is easy to make, nutritional and packed with protein. Try a quinoa bowl, they are made quickly with ingredients you have on hand. I make them frequently, I like to use zesty and zippy flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cups Quinoa
  • 1 1/4 cups Water
  • 1/4 tsp Salt (Kosher Salt preferred)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil (to taste)


Directions

  1. Add Salt and Water to the sauce pan and bring to a boil.
  2. Turn heat to low. If using an electric range: remove pan from burner wait 1 minutes and return to burner.
  3. Add Quinoa to water.
  4. Cover for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from pan immediately. Do not scrape off any quinoa stuck the side or bottom of the pan.
  6. Drizzle Olive Oil over Quinoa
  7. Fluff with a fork


Tips


Ratio 1:1 1/4 Quinoa : Water

For additional flavor:
Cook the Quinoa in broth.
Stir 1/4 cup chopped parsley.
Add 2 cloves minced sauteed Garlic.

If the heat is too high, the side and bottom will burn. Carefully, remove the cooked Quinoa from the pan. Do not scrape off any burned quinoa from the pan. Fill the pan with warm water and add a little dish soap. After 10 to 20 minutes the Quinoa will loosen and come off.
