Beans

Making your own beans is easy and effortless.   Making dried beans is ten times cheaper than buying canned beans.   Beans also freeze well, making home cooked beans just as versatile as canned beans.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of Dry Beans
  • 1 tsp Salt

Prepare beans

  1. Inspect the beans. Occasionally a small pebble with get mixed in with the beans.
  2. Rinse beans
  3. Fill with water 2 inches above beans
  4. Soak 2-8 hours
  5. If more than 8 hours, refrigerate while soaking.

  7. Drain beans, Rinse beans, Drain beans.
  8. In pan, Fill with water 2 inches above the beans
  9. Add Salt.
  10. Bring water to boil.
  11. Simmer on burner setting 2, Covered for 50 min. (just a little more than low)
  12. Check the beans.
  13. Increase cooking time until reached the desired tenderness.

Tips

  • Add more flavor to your beans by using broth instead of water.
  • Add more flavor by adding diced onion to the beans before cooking.
  • Under cook your beans if you plan to freeze the beans, finish cooking the beans after thawing.
