We ate a lot of food in New Orleans.   There was always something to enjoy at each restaurant.   When traveling, I eat as much local food as possible.   I typically find places with vegetarian choices which allow me to enjoy the local flavors.   I enjoy seafood during my travels if my vegetarian choices are limited.   While in New Orleans I really enjoyed several restaurants.   I had some amazing seafood and incredible creole dishes.

Today we ate at a vegan restaurant called Seed.   The menu included several dishes made to taste like traditional New Orleans Creole dishes.   This was my favorite restaurant during our trip to New Orleans.   The flavors were authentic and full of life.   Since this was our first vegan restaurant in New Orleans, we did hesitate to order extra food.   There were a few other vegan restaurants in the area but we chose Seed for the menu.

Here are my impressions of the food we ordered.   The Southern Fried Nuggets were very tasty, kind of addictive.   We dipped them in their Agave mustard, which was made at the restaurant.   The artichoke cakes resembled crab cakes, I imagine that was the intention.   I actually enjoyed them more than crab cakes and I have I eaten a lot of crab cakes.   I could eat the Gumbo everyday, it was so flavorful.   I could taste the tomatoes in the broth with the typical creole seasoning.   The flavors of the vegetables were beautiful in the dish. As with most gumbos, a mound of rice balanced the dish.   The eggplant po’boy was also one of my favorites.   The Eggplant was cut super thin, marinated and fried. The bread was fresh, it tasted like it was made on-site.   The po’boy was topped with sautéed onion, roasted red peppers, lettuce and mayo.   The vegetable etouffee was also very tasty, the vegetables selected for this dish were perfect.   The Beignets were also vegan, I liked them more than Café du Monde.   There were five beignets in the order.   Their beignets are a little smaller than Café du Monde and Café Beignet.   There are five in an order, so the overall amount is really similar.
