Roasted Asparagus

Asparagus has a great flavor, it is grassy and green and full of fiber.   It compliments many dishes as a side dish or as an ingredient.   We eat this dish a lot, the flavor can be changed with a few simple modifications.   Tossing it in lemon juice, soy sauce or chili oil, just to name a few.

I have included a few different cooking methods.   Each method will produce a similar flavor.   I use each method, the one I select will depend upon convenience.   The choice is usually dependent on what I am cooking at the time.

Roasted Asparagus

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Asparagus
  • 2 tbsp cooking Oil
  • 2 pinches Salt
  • 2 pinches Pepper

Prepare the Asparagus

  1. Clean the Asparagus.
  2. Snap the hard bottom portion off each the Asparagus off.
  3. Or Cut an inch off the bottom of stack of Asparagus.
  4. Place on a plate.
  5. Add Oil, toss to coat.
  6. Add Salt and Pepper, toss to coat.

Bake cooking method

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F degrees
  2. Spread Asparagus evenly on a baking sheet pan or grill pan.
  3. Place pan on middle rack.
  4. Bake for 12 minutes.
  5. Plate immediately.

Broil cooking method

  1. Preheat broiler on high setting.
  2. If using a broiling pan add 1/8 cup water to the bottom of the broiling pan.
  3. Place pan on next to top rack.
  4. Broil for 6 minutes.
  5. Plate immediately.

Grill cooking method

  1. Preheat grill to high temperature.
  2. Reduce heat to medium temperature.
  3. Using long tongs, place the asparagus on the grill.
  4. Use the tongs to move the asparagus to not overlap.
  5. Grill for 6 minutes.
  6. Remove from grill.

Stove-top cooking method

  1. Preheat the pan on medium heat for on minute.
  2. Spread Asparagus evenly on the pan.
  3. Cook for 2 minutes and turn the asparagus by slightly rolling.
  4. Cook for 2 minutes
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you reach the desired tenderness. I usually cook mine for about 6 minutes.
  6. Plate immediately.
