I have a lot of fond memories of blackberries. When I was a child blackberry bushes were everywhere. I used to eat the berries fresh from the vine. My mother made pies and cobblers with the berries I managed to bring home. I miss those homemade sweet and tart desserts.
Today, I don’t live near blackberry bushes, so we have to buy them. Nothing much has changed, I still love to gobble them up by the handful. Sometimes, we buy extra so we can make syrups for vinaigrette and cocktails.
Blackberries are low in calories, sugar and carbohydrates. Blackberries are high in fiber (both soluble and insoluble), vitamin C and vitamin K.
